In response to HKFI’s Critical Illness Standardization, Bowtie is officially launching the "Meet-or-Better-Off" mechanism on 1 September 2026!
Bowtie’s existing terms are already more generous than HKFI standards in 5 conditions. To uphold our promise that coverage only improves and never downgrades, we are keeping both Bowtie’s Original Definitions and HKFI’s Standardized Definitions. When assessing critical illness claims, the claim will be evaluated against the definition more favorable to you, subject to all other applicable policy terms and conditions.
- "Meet-or-Better-Off" Dual Protection: Automatically compares both sets of critical illness definitions—your claim satisfies the disease criteria as long as it meets either definition (subject to all applicable policy terms, exclusions, waiting periods, and supporting medical evidence requirements).
- Taking claims for end-stage liver disease as an example: For End Stage Liver Disease with ascites, encephalopathy, and varices (without jaundice), Bowtie’s original rules might not cover it. Under the new approach, subject to plan terms, we adopt HKFI’s broader criteria to process the claim!
- Automatic Upgrade for Applicable Policies: Applies to policies issued on or after 1 September 2026 and all active in-force policies under applicable plans (Bowtie Term CI, Bowtie Term CI Multiple Cover, and Bowtie Term CI Early Stage & Multiple Cover) with zero customer action required.
- No Premium Increase from Definition Update: This claims-definition update does not itself result in a premium increase; premiums continue to be calculated based on the applicable Standard Premium Schedule and policy terms.
Note: Coverage is subject to policy terms and conditions, exclusions, and waiting periods. Please refer to our product page for full details and material applicability.
