Day Care and Rehabilitation Building - Lui Ming Choi Building

The newly reconstructed Lui Ming Choi Building at Caritas Medical Centre was opened in 2016. It has a total floor area of over 54,000 square meters, which is approximately 20,000 square meters larger than the old building. It provides an additional 20 rehabilitation beds and a total of 100 different specialty consultation rooms and 3 day surgery operating theaters, enhancing the overall service capacity of the hospital.

The patient’s hospital experience is equally important. The new building is equipped with modern physical therapy and occupational therapy facilities such as hydrotherapy rooms, providing patients with excellent rehabilitation care services. The reconstructed Caritas Medical Centre also offers more activity space for patients, including the construction of a rehabilitation garden, which contributes to improved patient well-being and recovery.

Frequently Asked Questions before Admission

What do I need to prepare before admission?

Patients are required to bring their own personal daily necessities such as a cup, toothbrush, towel, tissue paper, wet wipes, soap, slippers, etc. In addition, patients need to bring their Hong Kong identity card or passport and admission papers for registration. For non-adult Hong Kong residents or government-assisted individuals, you can click here for more information.

How long is the waiting time at the Caritas Medical Centre Emergency Department?

After arriving at the Emergency Department, patients will be assessed by experienced and specially trained nurses to make an initial evaluation of their condition. The triage nurse will categorize patients into five categories:

  • Critically ill
  • Critical
  • Urgent
  • Semi-urgent
  • Non-urgent

Patients classified as critically ill will receive immediate medical attention, while non-urgent patients may have to wait for a longer time.

Can I apply for financial assistance if I have financial difficulties at home?

Yes, you can. If you are already receiving Comprehensive Social Security Assistance (CSSA), you only need to inform the staff during each registration for medical consultation that you are eligible for exemption from medical fees. Provide the necessary identification documents, and upon confirmation by the staff, you will be exempted from public healthcare service charges.

If you are not receiving CSSA, you can still apply for fee reduction in public hospitals and clinics, Samaritan Fund, and Community Care Fund Medical Assistance Programs after meeting specific eligibility criteria and passing the means test.
