【7 May, 2025 — HONG KONG】Bowtie, Hong Kong’s first virtual insurer1, announces the launch of the market-first “Children’s Growth Term Critical Illness Insurance”. Currently, only a few of critical illness insurance products are tailored specifically for children and pregnant women; most of existing offerings are whole life plans with saving components that require a higher premium size. Additionally, the majority of medical insurance products – including those under the Voluntary Health Insurance Scheme – only provide coverage for congenital conditions diagnosed after a child turns 8 years old.
By introducing “Bowtie Children’s Growth Term Critical Illness Insurance”, a pure protection plan without saving components, Bowtie aims to offer more targeted coverage. The plan is designed to provide affordable protection for the often overlooked groups of children and pregnant women; it also fills the protection gap for congenital and genetic diseases through offering financial support to Hong Kong parents at every stage of their child’s growth.
Mingo Tsang, Bowtie’s Head of Marketing and Branding, said, “We have identified a significant gap in critical illness coverage for children and pregnant women, particularly for genetic conditions. As a startup company, Bowtie is committed to address the pain points of over 30,000 newborns annually in Hong Kong by developing innovative products. We believe the unique ‘Genetic Diseases’ coverage of this product will resonate with parents, positioning it as the go-to choice alongside VHIS products.”
