The CUHKMC Wellness Package is a one-stop "Medical Insurance + Health" service product jointly launched by Bowtie and the Chinese University of Hong Kong Medical Centre (CUHK Medical Centre). This Wellness Package serves as a rider for the Bowtie VHIS Flexi Plan. Flexi Plan customers can add this Wellness Package for an additional $200/month to enjoy:
1. Annual Health Check-up (can add optional health check items recommended by doctors)
CUHKMC will offer medical consultations. In addition to basic health check-ups, you are also entitled to BowtiePoint1 , valued at HK$1500, which can be redeemed for designated optional health check items various tests or health services as recommended by your doctor.
2. Full Reimbursement for Selected Medical Packages
Bowtie fully reimburses for selected day surgery procedures and inpatient surgical operation/procedure packages. The medical packages include all related costs for doctors, wards, and medications.
3. Cashless Settlement Application Waiver
Upon presenting the Bowtie Digital Medical Card that indicates your Wellness Package during a pre-surgery medical consultation at CUHKMC, Bowtie and CUHKMC will automatically take care of the pre-approval application in respect of the CUMC Medical Package(s) selected by you and you can enjoy a seamless discharge process.
After purchasing the rider plan, even if you need to receive treatments at other hospitals, you will still get reimbursed for the costs according to the maximum limits of the Bowtie VHIS Flexi Plan, with no restrictions on your treatment options.

This Wellness Package does not cover outpatient treatments unrelated to hospitalization and surgery such as common colds and dental services. The required Bowtie VHIS Flexi Plan that is paired with the purchase of this combination can cover Accident emergency outpatient treatments, and Pre- and post-confinement / Day case procedure outpatient care, with compensation up to the limits of the Flexi Plan.
No. Wellness Plan is not a recognized product under the Voluntary Health Insurance Scheme (VHIS), therefore the premium for this package cannot be used for tax deduction.
However, you can still apply for a tax deduction for the premiums paid for Bowtie VHIS - Flexi Plan.
Yes, the "Full Reimbursement for Selected Medical Packages" only can be applied to CUHKMC's day bed or 4-bed room only.
The Issue Age for this Wellness Package ranges from 15 days to 80 years old and it is lifetime annual renewal (non-guaranteed).

Yes, you can log into the online platform any time within 2 years from the effective date of your Bowtie VHIS - Flexi Plan to purchase CUHK Medical Center / GHK Wellness Plan as a top-up. However, there will be a 180 Days waiting period from the effective date of the Wellness Plan to enjoy "Full Reimbursement for Selected Medical Packages." While if you purchase the Wellness Plan at the same time as insuring with the Bowtie VHIS Flexi Plan, you will not be subject to the 180 Days waiting period.
Regardless of the circumstances, a 90 Days waiting period applies for "Annual Core Health Check-up and Optional Health Check Items".
No, You can only hold one in-force Wellness Package under your Bowtie VHIS Flexi Plan policy.
Yes. Up until April 10th 2024, all customers of BowtieVHIS - Flexi Plan who never held any Wellness Package can log into the online platform to purchase either CUHKMC Wellness Package or GHK Wellness Package without underwriting needed in the process. However, please note that there will be a 180 Days waiting period from the effective date of the new Wellness Plan to be eligible for the "Full Reimbursement for the Selected Medical Packages"; and there is a 90 Days waiting period for "Annual Core Health Check-ups / Optional Health Services" under the Wellness Plan.
In order for you to purchase the Wellness Package on top of the exisiting VHIS - Flexi, follow the outlined steps below:
1. Log into Bowtie's online platform and visit the "My Policies" page.
2. Select the corresponding Bowtie VHIS - Flexi Plan policy and to "Modify Policy".
3. Click on "Apply for Additional Services" and select the CUHK Medical Centre Wellness Plan.
4. Proceed with the payment process.
The newly purchased Wellness Package will take effect from the date of successful payment. The validity of the services within the package is one year from the effective date of the medical health package policy.
You must complete the purchase of the Wellness Package within the promotional period. After the promotional period, if your Bowtie VHIS Flexi Plan policy has been effective for over 2 years, we will not accept your application for the add-on.
The specific exclusions in your Flexi Plan policy also apply to the "Full Reimbursement" coverage within the Wellness Package Plan, whereas the "Annual Core Health Check-up and Optional Health Check Items " will not be affected.

No, the premium for the Wellness Plan is a fixed charge. Currently, regardless of gender, age, previous claim history, or health condition, the premium is set as $200/month.
Since the "Full Reimbursement for Selected Medical Packages" service is based on the coverage scope of the Bowtie VHIS - Flexi Plan and is subject to its annual coverage limit, the specific exclusions in your Flexi Plan policy also apply to the "Full Reimbursement" coverage within the Wellness Package Plan.
Whereas the "Annual Core Health Check-up and Optional Health Check Items" will not be affected.
No. This Wellness Plan is an additional coverage option for the Bowtie VHIS - Flexi Plan only, and each in-force Wellness Plan policy must be paired with an in-force VHIS Flexi Plan policy.
Yes, you can terminate the Wellness Plan policy at any time by logging onto the online platform and proceed with the process. Please allow at least 30 working days for us to process your termination application.
The related policy will expire after the next billing settlement date, while your Bowtie VHIS - Flexi Plan policy will not be affected.
Bowtie fully reimburses for 139 day procedure and 228 inpatient operation/procedure packages named “CUMC Medical Packages” (CMP). CUMC Medical Packages cover all doctors’ fees and all hospital charges for procedure-related standard items and drugs, which also cover expenses over complications and intensive care in relation to the operation/procedure.

After purchasing the Wellness Package, even if you need to receive treatments at other hospitals/treatments other than selected medical packages within your Wellness Plan, you will still get reimbursed according to the VHIS Flexi Plan coverage details. There will be no restrictions on your treatment options. However, you will not be entitled to the "Cashless Settlement Application Waiver " service.

We will first deduct the relevant costs and coverages based on the benefit item limits of the Bowtie VHIS Flexi Plan. The remaining costs will be considered for reimbursement from the Wellness Package, and the total reimbursement will then be subtracted from the annual benefit limit in the Bowtie VHIS Flexi Plan.
The annual coverage limits of the Bowtie VHIS Flexi Plan (Regular) and Bowtie VHIS Flexi Plan (Plus) have annual coverage limits of HK$600,000 and HK$1,000,000 respectively and they are reset annually.
You can log in to Bowtie's online platform, visit the "My Policies" section, and select the appropriate Bowtie VHIS Flexi Plan policy to check the remaining annual coverage of your policy. You can also seek assistance from Bowtie's claim specialists by calling at 3001 5670 or emailing at claim@bowtie.com.hk.
If the amount you claim for the "Full Reimbursement Selected Medical Package" exceeds the remaining balance of your annual coverage under the Bowtie VHIS Flexi Plan for that year, you will not be eligible for full reimbursement.
Example: If you undergo a selected medical package costing HK$90,000, and the remaining annual coverage of your Flexi Plan policy for that year is only HK$50,000, you will receive a maximum reimbursement of HK$50,000. The remaining HK$40,000 will be your out-of-pocket expense.
Reminder: The annual coverage limits of the Bowtie VHIS Flexi Plan (Regular) and Bowtie VHIS Flexi Plan (Plus) policies are HK$600,000 and HK$1,000,000 respectively, and they are reset every year.
If the remaining balance of your annual coverage under the Flexi Plan is sufficient to cover the entire cost of the selected medical package, you will be eligible for fully reimbursement.When using the selected medical packages at the designated hospital, you must agree to and be bound by the terms and conditions stipulated by the respective hospital. For details, please refer to the respective hospital's website.
Yes, all treatments or services cost outside of the selected medical packages will still be reimbursed according to the maximum limits of the Bowtie VHIS Flexi Plan. If you wish to enjoy the "Cashless Settlement Service", you need to apply for the "Pre-approval Service" with Bowtie for the related costs yourself.
CUHK Medical Center does provide cost estimation service for all patients before admission, and if needed, they will also specify the costs outside of their medical packages. Bowtie will estimate the reimbursement based on the hospital's quotation.

If the doctor recommends that you receive one of the selected medical packages included in the your wellness package. You must present the Bowtie Digital Medical Card that indicates your Wellness Package during a pre-surgery medical consultation at CUHKMC, Bowtie and CUHKMC will take care of the pre-approval application in respect of the CUMC Medical Package(s) selected by you, and you can enjoy a seamless cashless discharge process.
The detailed process for the "Cashless Settlement Application Waiver" is as follows:
1. Obtain the Medical Card
Before the pre-surgery medical consultation, log into the Bowtie online platform, go to the "My Coverage" page, select your CUHK Medical Centre Wellness Package to obtain your Bowtie Digital Medical Card.
2. Indicate your identity at the consultation
Present the Bowtie Digital Medical Card to indicate your Wellness Package during a pre-surgery medical consultation.
3. Wait for Application Results
CUHK Medical Centre will directly submit a pre-approval application in respect of the CUMC Medical Package(s) selected to Bowtie on your behalf. The approval process normally takes about 4-6 working days, after which Bowtie will notify you the application result via SMS/email.
4. Receive Treatment / Discharge
After being approved, you can contact CUHK Medical Centre to arrange the treatment date and enjoy a hassle-free discharge.

This Wellness Plan comes with BowtiePoint that valued at HK$1,500 every year for you to redeem designated Optional Health Check Items . You need to call CUHKMC at 3946 6188 to make a appointment before the visit. The hospital / medical center will provide the pre-check medical consultation, you can then log onto the "Redeem Services" page, and redeem health services according to the recommendations from your doctor. BowtiePoiint can be used, you will have to provide the QR Code as you receive the health services. Please note that there will be a 90-day waiting period for "Annual core health check-up and optional health check items" in the first policy year of the Wellness Plan, with no waiting period for subsequent renewals.
BowtiePoint will only be valid for one year from the effective date of the wellness package insurance policy and cannot be accumulated for use.Unused BowtiePoint cannot be converted into cash, transferred, or accumulated for the next policy year. Upon renewal, the BowtiePoints available for use within the package will be reset to 1500 BowtiePoint.
No. The "Health Check-ups / Selected Health Services" or BowtiePoint under the Wellness Plan are exclusively for the insured persons under that Wellness Plan insurance policy.
No. We do not accept requests for return or exchange of health services.
