In response to the Emergency Response Level due to the spread of coronavirus, the Hong Kong Sanatorium & Hospital required patients who are admitted to the hospital to undergo the following screenings:
- Fever, Travel, Occupation, Contact and Clustering Screening
- COVID-19 PCR Test
- Patients might need to undergo a rapid antigen test on the admission day
Prior to each visit, all visitors are required to complete Fever, Travel, Occupation, Contact and Clustering form to obtain valid “Access Rights”.
A visit is allowed only upon presentation of
- Valid “Access Rights”
- The GREEN “HKSH Health Code” or a valid “Visitor Record Card” with HKID card for verification by a staff of the Sanatorium & Hospital
For inpatients:
- Only up to 2 registered visitors are allowed to visit at any one time.
- Visitors must undergo COVID-19 Screening Test before the visit (COVID-19 Rapid Antigen Test). For negative antigen results, “HKSH Health Code” will turn GREEN in colour, and the validity period will be updated.
- All visitors are required to register upon arrival.
For outpatients:
- Only one companion is allowed for each outpatient.
For Chemotherapy Unit, Renal Dialysis Centre and IVF Centre
- Each patient may register up to 2 registered visitors.
- Only 1 registered visitor is allowed to visit at any one time.
- Visitors must undergo COVID-19 Screening Test before the visit (COVID-19 Rapid Antigen Test ). For negative antigen results, “HKSH Health Code” will turn GREEN in colour, and the validity period will be updated.

Booking for admission must be made through the patient’s attending doctor. Patients need to bring along the Hong Kong Identity Card / Passport and deposit for registration on admission.
Outpatient
The 24-hour outpatient department of the Hong Kong Sanatorium & Hospital provides services from vaccination, lung cancer screening to travel health advice.
Other than general outpatient service, consultants of various specialties, such as Orthopaedics, Surgery, Ophthalmology, Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery, Cardiology and Obstetrics & Gynaecology can be accessed 24 hours a day for consultation at the Hong Kong Sanatorium & Hospital. It can be referred by Resident Medical Officers if consultation is needed outside service hours. Special service packages are also available for emergency surgeries.
The 24-hour outpatient department is equipped with 8 consultation rooms and 2 treatment rooms. The treatment rooms are equipped with operating tables and lights, oxygen, suction, cautery, cardiac monitors, and other resuscitation facilities. Minor surgeries such as suturing, removal of foreign bodies and plastering are performed here.

Charges will be levied based on the time at which patients obtain the queue tickets for registration.
We all have a risk of getting sick or injured. However, the charges of private hospitals are high and would be a great burden for patients. How can we alleviate the burden of medical expenses when we are in need?
You may consider applying for a Voluntary Health Insurance Scheme (VHIS) for yourself or your family member, transferring the burden of medical expenses to insurance companies. Under VHIS, clients’ medical expenses would be reimbursed to the actual expenses at the hospital. Therefore clients may share the medical expenses caused by illness and injury with the insurance company. This would reduce the pressure of paying expensive medical fees at private hospitals when patients are in need.
