VHIS Premiums by Age and How to Compare the Tables

Age has a large effect on medical-insurance premiums, but a price table needs context. The plan, deductible, sex and smoking category where applicable, payment frequency and schedule date can all change the figure.

Product documents checked 21 October 2026

The tables below use Bowtie's published monthly standard schedules effective 29 December 2025, checked on 21 October 2026. They are current age-rated figures, not promised premiums for future years. The IA levy, promotions and underwriting loadings are excluded.

Standard and Flexi at sample ages

Each cell shows male/female non-smoker monthly rates in HK dollars.

Attained age Standard Flexi Regular Flexi Plus
0 146 / 155 388 / 376 739 / 680
10 96 / 95 195 / 185 350 / 313
20 104 / 122 203 / 232 342 / 376
30 138 / 175 254 / 371 453 / 589
40 192 / 235 357 / 473 647 / 769
50 301 / 351 546 / 675 1,027 / 1,088
60 464 / 446 928 / 875 1,715 / 1,446
65 621 / 590 1,281 / 1,198 2,231 / 1,864
70 782 / 731 1,725 / 1,653 2,729 / 2,312

These plans have different limits and benefits. A lower Standard premium should be read with its item limits, not as a price for the same protection as Flexi. [S3] [S7] [S8]

Pink Ward and the deductible choice

The following Pink rates are not split by sex in the published schedule. All deductibles shown are annual policy-year amounts.

Attained age HK$0 deductible HK$20,000 HK$50,000 HK$80,000
0 530 260 163 147
10 499 245 157 141
20 529 273 189 174
30 702 347 238 213
40 880 482 303 285
50 1,285 754 470 429
60 2,110 1,274 852 779
65 2,971 1,618 1,157 1,071
70 3,934 2,055 1,514 1,365

At 30, Pink Ward with an HK$80,000 deductible is HK$213 a month, below Flexi Regular's male rate of HK$254. That does not mean broader cover is simply cheaper: the Pink option starts with a much larger deductible exposure if there is no eligible other-insurance offset. [S15]

Semi-Private and Private have their own schedules. For example, at 30 with an HK$50,000 deductible, their rates are HK$362 and HK$661, compared with Ward's HK$238. Room entitlement is a separate price driver. [S16] [S17]

How these figures were checked

The sample ages were matched directly to the attained-age rows in the published PDF schedules. Standard and Flexi use the male and female non-smoker columns. Pink uses the page for the specified room and deductible.

That is a reproducible comparison method: save the exact PDF, record its effective date, identify the page and column, and keep the calculation separate from any discount or levy.

Use the current schedule when applying or renewing. A table that remains valid can have an earlier effective date; the important checks are whether it is still the applicable version and whether your quote uses the same assumptions.

Monthly payment is not an annual-payment quote

Multiplying a monthly rate by twelve gives the annualised cost of paying that monthly amount. It does not prove what another insurer charges for annual payment, which may have a different total.

When comparing insurers, ask for both payment options where offered. Use the same frequency, age basis, room level, deductible and underwriting assumptions before interpreting a price gap.

Build a longer-term budget honestly

At current Standard rates, a male non-smoker pays HK$192 at 40 and HK$464 at 60. The current age curve shows a meaningful increase. A person buying at 40 cannot assume HK$464 will be the actual rate in twenty years because the schedule can be revised.

For planning, add current rates year by year as a baseline, then test separate assumptions for future revisions. Label those assumptions instead of presenting the result as a quote.

Before choosing the lowest number

Check the remaining out-of-pocket risk. Pink's deductible resets by policy year and can be reduced by eligible other-insurance reimbursement under its supplement. It is not automatically charged from zero again on every claim. [S11]

For an item-limited plan, check the gap on a possible surgical bill. Then compare premiums at older ages and decide whether both the premium and the potential claim contribution are affordable.
